Help Center - Employment Handbook
Question:
We have an applicant that has signed an offer letter to start on April 21st. They requested me to send a copy of our handbook now. Do you feel that is ok to do or should we wait for him to officially start April 21st
Response:
We are not aware of any specific reason that an employer cannot or should not provide a new employee with a copy of the handbook prior to the employee actually starting employment. This assumes that the individual has provided a legitimate reason for requesting the handbook, such as wanting to familiarize him with company policies, etc., and you can certainly ask for a reason if the individual has not provided one. If you decide to provide the handbook, you should make clear that the handbook must be returned if for some reason employment does not start (and similarly, we recommend that it should be your company policy that employees must return all company property, including the handbook, upon termination).
